Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of Islamic feminism to the development of an inclusive gender-interpretation paradigm through a conceptual synthesis of the ideas of Amina Wadud, Fatima Mernissi, and Asma Lamrabet. A qualitative approach with a library research design was employed. Primary data were drawn from the major works of the three scholars, while secondary data consisted of relevant books and peer-reviewed journal articles. The data were analyzed using critical hermeneutics, qualitative content analysis, and comparative analysis to identify conceptual similarities, differences, and complementarities. The findings reveal that gender inequality in many Muslim societies is rooted primarily in patriarchal interpretations of Islamic texts rather than in the normative teachings of Islam. The integration of tawhidic hermeneutics, historical criticism, and the maqāid al-sharīʿah approach provides a contextual, humanistic, and justice-oriented framework for gender interpretation. The novelty of this study lies in proposing an integrative Islamic feminist paradigm that synthesizes these three perspectives into a comprehensive conceptual framework to advance inclusive gender interpretation in contemporary Islamic studies, education, and public policy.

Keywords: Islamic feminism; gender equality; inclusive gender interpretation; tawhidic hermeneutics; maqāid al-sharīʿah; Amina Wadud; Fatima Mernissi; Asma Lamrabet.
