Traditional village healing practices, as a sociocultural heritage, continue to exist in the modern era, including in Jawa Maraja Bahjambi District, Simalungun Regency. This study aims to examine how local communities receive and practice hadith-related healing norms, and to critically analyze the extent to which village healing practices align with Islamic jurisprudence through the perspective of Living Hadith. This qualitative field research employs a descriptive case study design. Data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews with two local practitioners (JS and WD) selected through purposive sampling, and documentation. Data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results demonstrate the phenomenon of religious syncretism in two main aspects. First, in the material dimension, the use of irrational ingredients such as grave moss and the fetishism of the number seven regarding water sources are assessed as ad-dawa’ al-khabith (foul medicine) based on the Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah. Second, in the performative dimension, claims of the ability to see and converse with khodam jinn (Opung or prewangan) are assessed as batil (invalid) based on the Hadith of Ibn Abbas and Quranic verses. The novelty of this research lies in its use of hadith as the primary analytical instrument for examining healing practices in the Jawa Maraja Bahjambi area, integrating both material and performative dimensions within a single Living Hadith framework.
