THE ROLE OF VILLAGE RELIGIOUS LEADERS IPRESERVING THE TRADITION OF TASYAKKURAN AFTER EID PRAYER AMONG URBAN COMMUNITIES IN JEMBER REGENCY

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership of village clerics in preserving the tradition of post-Eid prayer celebrations among urban communities in Jember Regency amid the dynamics of modernity. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design to explore in depth the experiences, strategies, and meanings constructed by the clerics and the community. Data collection methods included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, with village clerics, community leaders, and residents participating in the study. The results indicate that the leadership of village clerics plays a significant role in preserving traditions through three main strategies: a cultural-religious approach, the reinforcement of religious and social values, and adaptation to changes in community lifestyles. The findings also reveal that the tasyakkuran tradition is not merely preserved as a ritual, but has been reimagined as a vehicle for social solidarity and the teaching of religious values. In conclusion, the leadership of village clerics plays a key role in sustaining local religious traditions within an urban society that tends toward individualis. This study contributes to the development of a locally-based theory of religious leadership, offers practical implications for the preservation of Islamic traditions in the modern era, and opens up opportunities for further research in this context
