Abstrak

The Arabic Pegon means a Malay or Javanese meaning using Javanese Arabic writing to translate Arabic language on the kitab kuning. It can help the students understand Arabic well. One of the Islamic boarding schools that understanding kitab kuning using Ma'na Pegon is  Mambaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi. It is rare to find a guide book that reviews the procedures for writing and reading Arabic Pegon. So, the researcher presents one of the textbook about how to write and read pegon correctly which is supported with animation and QR code.

The formulation of the research problem is 1) how is the development of Pegon Arabic language learning at Mambaul Ulum Islamic boarding school in Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi. 2) how is the feasibility of Pegon Arabic language learning materials based on the thematic approach at Mambaul Ulum Islamic boarding school in Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi 3) how effective is the Pegon Arabic grammatical learning material based on the thematic approach which is developed at Mambaul Ulum Islamic boarding school Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi.

Research model and development for Pegon Arabic Language textbook in improving reading skill on the diniah students of Mambaul Ulum Islamic boarding school Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi use the Sugiono model (2016). This approach is suitable to apply because it is hopefully expected to obtain certain results, effective experience and knowledge in field test validation. There are two types of data used, namely quantitative and qualitative. They include data collection methods of interviews, observation the questionnaires and test. The objects in this study were 1st class students of diniah.

The result of this research is development of a thematic based Pegon Arabic textbook use a contextual approach. The feasibility of teaching materials developed for understanding kitab kuning on Ula level students at Mambaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Wringin Putih Muncar Banyuwangi is very good. Because the result of the learning technology validator is 97.5% and the material content validator of pegon rules is 95%, the effectiveness result is 1.795 <6.7> 2.718. Researcher defines that the t-count of 6.7 is greater than the t-table value. At a significance level of 5% (0.05) for 11 degrees of freedom it shows a figure of 1.795. At a significance level of 1% (0.01) it shows a figure of 2.718. It means that the previous hypothesis can be accepted. So, these results show that the Arabic Pegon teaching materials developed based on a contextual approach are effective and improve students' reading skills
